Infosys Layoffs: Government Intervenes as NITES Raises Concerns, Company Denies Claims
The Union Ministry of Labour and Employment has once again stepped in to address concerns regarding layoffs at Infosys’ Mysuru campus. The ministry has directed the Karnataka Labour Commissioner to investigate the matter and provide a detailed report on the actions taken.
According to an official letter dated February 25, the ministry urged the labour commissioner to take necessary action and keep both the applicants and authorities informed. This intervention follows complaints filed by Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES)—a Pune-based IT employee union—along with over 100 former Infosys trainees who were reportedly terminated.
While Infosys has dismissed these allegations, the ministry’s directive indicates increased scrutiny over employee layoffs in the IT sector. As the situation unfolds, further developments are expected regarding the legal and regulatory aspects of the case.
