IT Hiring Sees Resurgence as Resume Views Increase on Job Portals
India’s IT job market is showing early signs of recovery, with an increase in resume views by IT firms compared to three to four months ago, according to Info Edge, the parent company of Naukri and IIM Jobs. While it’s too early to determine if this signals a complete rebound, the trend suggests that hiring activity in the sector is picking up.
The IT industry, which recently saw a historic decline in headcount, has been grappling with economic uncertainties that led to reduced discretionary spending by clients. However, the latest uptick in job postings and recruitment activity offers a glimmer of hope for job seekers and hiring managers alike.
A Shift in IT Hiring Trends
During a recent earnings call, Info Edge CEO Hitesh Oberoi highlighted that while Indian startups and enterprises continue to hire IT talent, the bulk of hiring demand still comes from major IT firms. He also noted that many companies over-hired during the pandemic due to a surge in demand for digital services, which later led to lower utilization levels and hiring slowdowns. Now, as these utilization levels stabilize, hiring may be gradually returning to pre-pandemic norms.
Additionally, the IT job market is shifting beyond traditional coding skills like Java and Python. Companies are now prioritizing emerging skill sets such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analytics, and cloud computing, indicating a transformation in talent demand.
Financial Growth and Market Outlook
Info Edge reported an 11% growth in IT sector billings and a 12% rise in non-IT segment billings for the March quarter. The company’s consolidated revenue grew by 9% to ₹657 crore, with a net profit of ₹162 crore, marking a strong financial turnaround.
