Blinkit Appoints Former Flipkart Executive Vipin Kapooria as CFO Amid Expansion Plans
Blinkit, Zomato’s quick commerce subsidiary, has appointed Vipin Kapooria as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Kapooria, who previously served as Vice President of Business Finance at Flipkart, brings extensive experience in financial strategy and operations. His appointment highlights a growing trend where rapid commerce platforms are attracting top talent from established e-commerce giants to scale their businesses.
This marks the first time Blinkit has had a full-time CFO since Amit Sachdeva, who held the role from 2019 to 2022, stepped down. The move comes shortly after Zomato declared Blinkit as its most critical business division, with expectations that it will outgrow its core food delivery operations.
Strategic Leadership & Expansion Goals
Kapooria is expected to work closely with Blinkit’s CEO Albinder Singh Dhindsa and Zomato’s CFO Akshant Goyal as the company strengthens its financial planning. His appointment follows Zomato’s recent ₹8,500 crore ($1 billion) fundraising, of which ₹2,137 crore (~$250 million) has been allocated for Blinkit’s expansion.
Having spent over seven years at Flipkart, Kapooria played a key role in its financial planning. He is a Chartered Accountant (CA) with 16+ years of experience, having also worked with OYO and Yum! Restaurants (the parent company of KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell).
Quick Commerce & the Talent War
Blinkit’s move to onboard a seasoned finance leader reflects a broader trend in quick commerce talent acquisition. Companies like Swiggy’s Instamart and Zepto are actively hiring from major e-commerce players such as Amazon and Flipkart, offering lucrative packages and senior roles to attract top executives.
In fact, Blinkit itself had previously experimented with a zero-notice period policy to speed up hiring but later revised it to a two-month notice period after facing high attrition, with employees being lured by competitors.
Blinkit’s Future Plans
With the quick commerce industry growing rapidly, Blinkit is not only focusing on leadership hiring but also expanding its services. Earlier this month, the company launched Bistro, a standalone 10-minute food delivery app, competing with Zepto Café, Swiggy’s Instacafe, and Bolt.
As competition heats up, Blinkit’s leadership restructuring and financial strategies will play a crucial role in determining its growth trajectory in the highly competitive quick commerce industry.
